It’s Friday and there’s no news heading into the weekend. So I thought I would use this opportunity to clear out some space on my phone. One of my weird obsessions is hoarding photos of random celebrities wearing Sixers gear. I’m not talking about ACTUAL celebrity fans like your Kevin Harts or M. Night Shyamalans. These are just oddball sightings that I’ve stumbled across and we’re gonna pick a winner. Yes, I realize I have a problem.
Jimmy Buffett

Here we see the original parrothead palming(!) a basketball and rocking one of the short-lived red Sixers jerseys that they only wore from ’94-’97. You might recognize that gentleman to his left as former team president Pat Croce. Jimmy was a well-known Miami Heat fan, but I personally think he looks like he’s having more fun here. Rest in peace, Jimmy.
Jay-Z

In the most early-2000’s photo in existence, we see Hov sporting a 1977 Dr. J jersey at a softball game between Roc-A-Fella and Bad Boy Records. It must have been hot that day because the jersey text and number seem to be melting off of him. Jay would go onto be quite famous and dabble in basketball here and there.
Riley Freeman

In the recently unearthed pilot for the Adult Swim classic cartoon, The Boondocks, our aggressive co-protagonist can be seen sporting another Dr. J jersey. We never see him don it again in the series, but I just assume he’s a huge fan and doesn’t want to get it dirty.
Lisa Ramos

Lisa Ramos is an Instagram superstar, author, and former contestant on America’s Next Top Model. She was born and raised in Queens, which you would think makes her a Knicks fan. However, her foam finger would put that argument to rest.
G4’s Olivia Munn and Kevin Pereira

If you never had a chance to witness the chaos of G4’s Attack of the Show from the early 2000’s, then congratulations as you probably weren’t a huge nerd like I was. I have no backstory or clue as to why the hosts donned AI-era jerseys in this particular episode, as it aired years after the Sixers’ ’01 run. But I can assure you that I will not rest until I find the answer.
Socks and sandals guy from American Dad!

Whoever animated this man had a VISION. The tats, the jewelry, the khaki shorts. All I know is that I want that Sixers jersey to exist so that I can recreate this look.
Reese Witherspoon’s son Deacon

So Reese Witherspoon’s son Deacon is randomly a huge Sixers fan. Ok, maybe not randomly. He became a fan via his famous actor father, Delaware native Ryan Phillipe. But I like the idea of celebrities in L.A. becoming fans of under-performing teams throughout the country rather than the Lakers.
Aubrey Plaza

We’re very pro-Aubrey Plaza here at Field Appeal. I don’t think that’s a controversial stance though. How could you not love her? Here the pride and joy of Wilmington, Delaware took in a game courtside with her lovely family. Aubrey has always been known to rep Philly, and that’s exactly what we love to see on this site. I KNOW, I KNOW, I said we wouldn’t cover traditional celebrity Sixers fans here. But she’s an exception.
Winner: VaVa

Chinese superstar rapper VaVa handily wins the “celebrities that aren’t outright fans (except Aubrey Plaza) in Sixers gear” award for 2025. And for good reason. She came sporting blue hair and rocked the hell out of a red “Phila” alternate when she performed at halftime.
But that’s not just what won her the coveted title of whatever I said earlier. She also visited the Sixers training facility in Camden and shot some adorable promos with Tobias Harris. This time she wore a personalized 2020 City Edition jersey. That makes not one, but TWO killer looks from the Philly style icon.

Congratulations, VaVa! Please come back and do some TikToks with Jared McCain before we inevitably find a way to self destruct and ruin his career.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
